Hospice Donations Update

Hi Everyone

Well, it's early Tuesday morning and we are 5 days away from the walk. I'm really excited!!! I'm proud to say right now, that we set a goal of $100...and we have EXCEEDED it by OVER $200!!! As of right now, we have raised collectively as a team $333!!! I owe a personal thank you to Cousin Jeff. We made $200 overnight because Jeff took the initiative to post our Hospice info on a forum that he belongs to. That generated a response by an individual who had recently lost his Mom and Hospice took over her case. When we started raising donations this year, I would have never thought that I would be sitting here 5 days before the walk saying to all of you, that we raised this much money. We are not done....the job doesn't end of raising money, until the moment the donations go in. So, I will give you another update Friday night, before I settle in for the evening, on how much we have raised.

I owe a personal thank you to the Lyons Family for ALL of their help this year. Seriously guys, you have been there for me...had my back on this....although none of you have been side by side with me, trying to raise these donations, you've been there on the Internet spreading the word. I cannot thank you enough. But I must tell you, the day that my Grandma told me that she has Alzheimer's, I told her how much we have raised. I heard the shock and excitement in her voice. That right there, was well worth all of it. So thank you from the bottom of my heart...I am indebted to all of you forever.

Sooooo 5 days left.....let's keep going!!!!! Let's see how much we can all turn in as Team Lyons....and know this...even if you are not walking with us, you're still part of the team. You are the one's doing the work behind the scenes...we are just the guys on the "front lines" doing the work...without you, we cannot do what we do. Do you think we can make $340??? How about $350???? Thank you to all of you...I will post another update Friday evening. A MILLION "thank yous" to you all....

Taking A Bit Of A Break

Hi Everyone,

I posted earlier, that I would be taking this evening (Friday) off from trivia, to get some rest and get caught up on daily chores around the house. Due to a family issue that has arisen tonight, I'm going to extend that a bit, and take the rest of the weekend off. My Grandmother, my Mom's Mom, was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and I need to make sure my affairs are in order here in my house, in the event that I need to be away in the future. I don't want to be leaving Jon and the boys to fend for themselves and them having no idea where anything is or where anything goes. Taking the weekend off, will allow me to get a lot done, and still spend time with Jon, so that he can adjust to things as well. I just wanted to let all of you know, because it's been brought to my attention that so many people enjoy playing trivia. Thank you all, and I will be back with you on Monday. Have a GREAT weekend...Heather

Answer: Music Trivia 9

Formed in 1981, the band Queensryche would go on to produce their most successful album in 1990. Empire was their 4th album and would generate their first top 10 single, "Silent Lucidity". This Power Ballad, which contained an instrumental background played by an orchestra, would reach number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks.....but here's the catch...I threw a curve ball in this one. The song lyrics are not that of "Silent Lucidity", they are of the song "Anybody Listening", which also appears on the album Empire.

Jeff got this one...Good Job Cousin Jeff!!!! I knew the minute I put this one out there, you'd get it...(smiling).

Sorry it took so long to get the answer posted everyone. Yesterday was kind of a rough day for me. So after talking with Jeff last night, I'm posting the answer and taking the rest of today off on trivia, to get some much needed rest and cleaning done. I will be back tomorrow, Saturday, to post another trivia question. Thank you all for playing, and I'm hoping tomorrow's question will be a stumper!!! ;o)~

An Introduction

Hi! I'm Jeff's sister Laura but I'm better known online as Jaimey Grant. I am a wife and mother, and author of four published novels. I write about Regency England with occasional forays into other periods as well as fantasy. My books can be found on Amazon in paperback and Kindle form, in e-book form from Barnes and Noble and Kobo.com as well as multi-format e-book from Smashwords.com. I encourage you to check them out.

I have been invited to contribute to this lovely blog and have decided to do so in the form of "This Day in History." It will be random factoids and will include the entire world, not just the USA. (I will admit that my partiality for Regency Britain and Britain in particular may often lead me to post many historical tidbits about that part of the world.) I will be posting on this topic once, maybe twice a month. It will be a random date and links to further reading will be provided. If I ever get something wrong, please feel free to correct me.

I hope you enjoy what I post and comment when you feel the urge. Comments are always welcome!

Hospice of Michigan Walk & Remember Donation Update

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to give a brief update on where the team is at as far as raising donations. As of this weekend, we have collectively as a team, raised $130!!!!!! We are geeked, stoked, and the push is on to raise $200 now. So, we are $70 short, and it would be awesome to exceed our goal of $100, by raising another $100. Soooo, if everyone can put the news out there to friends and family, that we are short $70 from reaching our next big goal, I'd so appreciate it. Remember, donations can also be made online at our team donation site:

http://www.active.com/donate/walkandremember/HLyons7

We are officially 12 days out from the walk, and I'm as giddy as a little kid on Xmas morning. I live for this walk every year. I cannot describe to you, the emotion and feeling of handing that money in that we've raised, and knowing that this is going to help someone out. I usually don't sleep the night before the walk, because I'm so excited..lol My only regret, is that I wish I had my Mom walking by my side. But I remember, she's in my heart, so she's always with me. I will give you another update next Monday, May 17th, and then a final total of how much we've raised the night before the walk on Friday, May 21st. We are going to work hard to raise this money, we aren't stopping until the donations are turned in. So please, pass the word...we are all in this together, and the team and I cannot take all the credit for the donations...we have to give the credit to you for opening up your hearts to us and giving us these pledges.

Thank you again everyone...look for the next update in a week!!!!!
Heather

Neil Diamond had numerous hits spanning 3 decades, from the 1960's to the 1990's. Originally covered by Elvis Presley, "And The Grass Won't Pay No Mind" was a song written by Neil Diamond, and one that he would later go on to record himself.

Music Trivia 5

Since Today is Mother's Day, I'd like to do a Trivia Question, dedicated to my Mom. This artist is a favorite of both hers and mine...

This artist has numerous hits spanning over 3 decades, from the 1960's to the 1990's. In 1962, he signed his second recording contract, but this time he signed on as a solo performer. His hand prints can be found in front of a ride at Walt Disney World. He's been inducted into several Music Hall of Fame's. As recently as 2009, he tweeted on his Twitter page that he had a new album that was coming out, and that for the first time he would be playing electric guitar on it. He tweeted that he enjoyed to play Gibson and Martin acoustic guitars, but recently was playing a Gibson electric guitar for the new album. Not only has he gained fame as a performer, but he has likewise gained success through his ability to write music as well. Many well known performers, such as Elvis Presley and Mark Lindsay (lead singer of Paul Revere and the Raiders,) UB40, and Deep Purple have covered songs written by this artist. Can you name this artist and this song, that he wrote as well as recorded?

"Saying nothing, lying where the sun is
Baking down upon our sides
My lips touch you, with their soft wet kisses
Your hands in gentle reply...."

Answer: Music Trivia 4

When the 1980's British Pop/Rock Group The Outfield burst onto the music scene in 1985, their debut album went triple Platinum. Their hit single "Your Love" was a top 10 hit here in the United States.

AWESOME Job Jay and Gloria....I need to start stumping you guys...lol ;0)~ I'm so glad you guys are having fun at this......I am too.

My Intro.,, Book Trivia

Hello my name is Gloria Lyons.
I thought I would take Cousin Heather's idea of trivia and do one of a similar nature.

I've been married to Jeffrey Lyons for 17 years. I was originally born in Flint, MI but my whole family moved north in August of 1990 and this is where I live now.

My trivia idea would be about books. I'm not sure how many 'fans' are readers, but I thought it might be a fun thing to try. Most of the books that I have on hand right now are 'Regency Romances'. Some are murder mysteries and I have access to a couple different private libraries, besides the local library.

I've had some friends say that I should do book reviews. Since I mostly just like to read them, I don't think I would get far with doing reviews. Depending on the time I have, I may read more than one book within a day.

If you like reading books, would like to keep track of them, or just meet other people with similar interests, there are several sites that you can use. Personally, I like Goodreads. There is also Bookcrossing and Paper Back Swap for those of us who don't have the space to keep all the books we get. Anyone wishing to pass their books onto others can do so at these websites. There are probably more sites for book readers, but these are the only three that I have looked into so far.

Shall we see how many people like reading and can figure out what book the following trivia is from?

Music Trivia 4

When this 1980's British Pop/Rock Group burst onto the music scene, their debut album went triple Platinum here in the United States. Can you name the band and the song, which was a top 10 hit here in the US in 1985, from the following lyrics?

"I ain't got many friends left to talk to, No one's around when I'm in trouble..."

Good Luck, and thanks to everyone who has been playing.....it keeps me going with this..it's where I get the enjoyment out of doing this..when everyone else is having fun with hit! ;o)~

They were known for many forms of rock, such as arena rock, boogie rock, and hard rock to name a few. With a Gold Album and numerous Platinum's under their belts, they would open for many well known artists such as Hank Williams Jr., Styx, and Reo Speedwagon. Answer: Music Trivia 1

The year was 1978. Newly hired lead singer Steven Perry, and lead guitarist Neal Schon sat down in a Denver hotel room, and in just one hour, penned out the song "Patiently" for Journey's 4th Album Infinity. It was the first time the two had collaborated on writing a song together, and Perry wanted to do his utmost to impress Schon. It worked, because Infinity soared up the charts, and the band gained more stardom then ever with their first Platinum Album.

Music Trivia 1

I want to take you back 32 years...the year was 1978. This song was released on this particular groups fourth album. It took just 1 hour in a hotel room in Denver, for the groups lead singer and lead guitarist to pen this song...the first song they ever wrote together. Can you name the song, and the group that sang it, from the following lyrics?? I will reveal the answer tomorrow. Good Luck!!!

"Just to reach and try, to live my life, these are my reasons......."

My Introduction

I want to begin by introducing myself. My name is Heather Lynn Lyons. I married into the Lyons family nearly 11 years ago. I am married to Jon Lyons, Jeff's cousin. Jon and I have 2 beautiful boys...Cory Robert Lyons age 13 and Shane Nolan Boge age 12. Like my husband Jon, I have lived in Michigan all my life. I am an only child, and as some of you have seen by my posts to Jeff, I lost my Mom 3 1/2 years ago after her 20 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. I am a stay-at-home wife/Mom, domestic diva sounds better...lol....as that Jon prefers it that way. I have a Criminal Justice degree and minored in Paralegal Studies in college as well. I graduated at the top of my Criminal Justice class, being only 1 of 3 girls in a whole class of guys...ouch! At the time of my graduation from college, I was married to my ex-husband. I was preparing to enter the State Police Academy, when we found out that we were expecting our son Shane. My ex-husband was raised on a farm, and he too, had had a Mom that stayed at home and took care of him and his 3 younger brothers and 1 younger sister. So, it only seemed right, that I drop my future plans, as he too wished, and be at home to be a farm wife/mother. Our marriage was dissolved not long after Shane was born, and a year later is when Jon Lyons, my soul mate, walked into my life. The rest is history.....

Over the last 11 years, I have met some of the most wonderful people on the Lyons side of the family. It has only been in the last year, that I came to know cousin Jeff, aka my adopted big brother, and his wife Gloria. I have had some of the most wonderful conversations with Jeff, and it is because of that, that I have been led here to write for his blog. Jeff came to me back in January 2010, and asked if I would like to do this. At the time, my husband and I had recently moved into our new house, and life was quite crazy. Wait, who am I kidding, it's still crazy, but I'm learning to multi-task, my multi-tasking. At any rate, I am at a point in my life now, where I can take some time to sit down everyday, and generate a blog. Jeff gave me full reign...but one of the things we have talked very in depth about is music. This past weekend, May 1st, I got involved on Facebook in a trivia competition, quite by accident I might add. And that got me to thinking..."why not do music trivia on Facebook???" So yesterday, I started it, and it blossomed into something I never would have expected it to. While in the middle of an all day music trivia challenge with my best friend, cousin Jeff answered one of my questions that had my best friend stumped. He approached me via email, and asked if I would like to do a music trivia blog on SlippedGear. "How cool would that be I thought.....a daily blog that I do, I'll research, post a lyric everyday, and that will allow people to answer with who the band/artist is and the name of the song. The next day, I will reveal the true answer to who the artist is and the name of the song, before I post yet another lyric." I asked around, felt out what people's thoughts were on the subject, and it sounded fun to some people, so we are a go on it.............

So, I hope everyone who sees this will join in. Let's have some fun...listen to a little music while we are at it. I'm going to confess something to all of you...I am a music geek..biggest music geek EVER. I sing in the car while going down the road, I sing in my house...I don't care how bad I suck, and I don't care who hears me. I find music makes the day go better and tasks get accomplished faster. My son uses the excuse every time I go make him do something, "Mom, I need music to work, I just can't do this job without music. If you want it done right, then you need to let me listen to music." Sounds like a lame excuse, but I go with it, because in all actuality, I feel the same deep down inside too. (winking) I am a HUGE fan of the 80's hairbands. There is just something about that time period in music, and the music that was generated, that just is so incredibly awesome to me. But, I will touch on other genres of music, from various periods in history. We'll do a little country, we'll do a little rock, we will do some pop, we'll cover the 80's, 90's and the present. Many tunes in my library, so I hope everyone will join in.

Thank you all for reading my blog/introduction, and I hope everyone has fun with this, I know I will.
