Book Trivia- Jane Austen

This isn't really a question, I thought I would just throw this in, I hope you have fun with it.

To Miss_____.

Charade

My first displays the wealth and pomp of kings,
Lords of the earth! their luxury and ease.
Another view of man, my second brings,
Behold him there, the monarch of the seas!

But, ah! united, what reverse we have!
Man's boasted power and freedom, all are flown;
Lord of the earth and sea, he bends a slave,
And woman, lovely woman, reigns alone.

Thy ready wit the word will soon supply,
May its approval beam in that soft eye!*

So here is the question: can you explain what this means?

If you have watched Emma you will have heard the first part of this quoted out loud, but I though it would be nice to add the whole thing here for all to see.

Have a wonderful week. The answer will be posted on Sunday, but everyone is free to answer this at anytime.

Hospice Donations Update

Hi Everyone

Well, it's early Tuesday morning and we are 5 days away from the walk. I'm really excited!!! I'm proud to say right now, that we set a goal of $100...and we have EXCEEDED it by OVER $200!!! As of right now, we have raised collectively as a team $333!!! I owe a personal thank you to Cousin Jeff. We made $200 overnight because Jeff took the initiative to post our Hospice info on a forum that he belongs to. That generated a response by an individual who had recently lost his Mom and Hospice took over her case. When we started raising donations this year, I would have never thought that I would be sitting here 5 days before the walk saying to all of you, that we raised this much money. We are not done....the job doesn't end of raising money, until the moment the donations go in. So, I will give you another update Friday night, before I settle in for the evening, on how much we have raised.

I owe a personal thank you to the Lyons Family for ALL of their help this year. Seriously guys, you have been there for me...had my back on this....although none of you have been side by side with me, trying to raise these donations, you've been there on the Internet spreading the word. I cannot thank you enough. But I must tell you, the day that my Grandma told me that she has Alzheimer's, I told her how much we have raised. I heard the shock and excitement in her voice. That right there, was well worth all of it. So thank you from the bottom of my heart...I am indebted to all of you forever.

Sooooo 5 days left.....let's keep going!!!!! Let's see how much we can all turn in as Team Lyons....and know this...even if you are not walking with us, you're still part of the team. You are the one's doing the work behind the scenes...we are just the guys on the "front lines" doing the work...without you, we cannot do what we do. Do you think we can make $340??? How about $350???? Thank you to all of you...I will post another update Friday evening. A MILLION "thank yous" to you all....

A Forge Book

About the Author:

This author has several genres that she writes - Mystery & Thrillers, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Romance. Today's book is about a 'feline super-sleuth'.

She has twenty books in this series alone, but 'envisions' the series to number 27; altogether she has 92 books with her name on them, either as a contributor or author.

From the book:

pg 65 - Ah, carp. It is a homely little word of one syllable, but sweet to me. Whether one says 'carp' or uses the fancy Oriental term of 'Koi,' they are both goldfish to my mind, and splendid eating.

pg 206 - So she paced, despite her ankle, waiting to go down to the lobby. There she would consult some old guy about a Lake Mead restaurant at an obscure site that coincidentally bore her name, minus a terminal 'r'.

Can you name this author & book?

Taking A Bit Of A Break

Hi Everyone,

I posted earlier, that I would be taking this evening (Friday) off from trivia, to get some rest and get caught up on daily chores around the house. Due to a family issue that has arisen tonight, I'm going to extend that a bit, and take the rest of the weekend off. My Grandmother, my Mom's Mom, was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and I need to make sure my affairs are in order here in my house, in the event that I need to be away in the future. I don't want to be leaving Jon and the boys to fend for themselves and them having no idea where anything is or where anything goes. Taking the weekend off, will allow me to get a lot done, and still spend time with Jon, so that he can adjust to things as well. I just wanted to let all of you know, because it's been brought to my attention that so many people enjoy playing trivia. Thank you all, and I will be back with you on Monday. Have a GREAT weekend...Heather

Answer: Music Trivia 9

Formed in 1981, the band Queensryche would go on to produce their most successful album in 1990. Empire was their 4th album and would generate their first top 10 single, "Silent Lucidity". This Power Ballad, which contained an instrumental background played by an orchestra, would reach number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks.....but here's the catch...I threw a curve ball in this one. The song lyrics are not that of "Silent Lucidity", they are of the song "Anybody Listening", which also appears on the album Empire.

Jeff got this one...Good Job Cousin Jeff!!!! I knew the minute I put this one out there, you'd get it...(smiling).

Sorry it took so long to get the answer posted everyone. Yesterday was kind of a rough day for me. So after talking with Jeff last night, I'm posting the answer and taking the rest of today off on trivia, to get some much needed rest and cleaning done. I will be back tomorrow, Saturday, to post another trivia question. Thank you all for playing, and I'm hoping tomorrow's question will be a stumper!!! ;o)~

An Introduction

Hi! I'm Jeff's sister Laura but I'm better known online as Jaimey Grant. I am a wife and mother, and author of four published novels. I write about Regency England with occasional forays into other periods as well as fantasy. My books can be found on Amazon in paperback and Kindle form, in e-book form from Barnes and Noble and Kobo.com as well as multi-format e-book from Smashwords.com. I encourage you to check them out.

I have been invited to contribute to this lovely blog and have decided to do so in the form of "This Day in History." It will be random factoids and will include the entire world, not just the USA. (I will admit that my partiality for Regency Britain and Britain in particular may often lead me to post many historical tidbits about that part of the world.) I will be posting on this topic once, maybe twice a month. It will be a random date and links to further reading will be provided. If I ever get something wrong, please feel free to correct me.

I hope you enjoy what I post and comment when you feel the urge. Comments are always welcome!

~Jaimey

Formed in 1981, this heavy metal/progressive metal group got it's humble beginning in Bellvue, Washington. The band released several albums prior to the release of it's most successful album in 1990. The release of this, their 4th album, would generate the band's first top 10 single. One such power ballad on the album, which contained an orchestra, would reach number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks. Among issues discussed in the band's songs were gun control and the environment. By morning this will all seem like a dream..."

Hospice of Michigan Walk & Remember Donation Update

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to give a brief update on where the team is at as far as raising donations. As of this weekend, we have collectively as a team, raised $130!!!!!! We are geeked, stoked, and the push is on to raise $200 now. So, we are $70 short, and it would be awesome to exceed our goal of $100, by raising another $100. Soooo, if everyone can put the news out there to friends and family, that we are short $70 from reaching our next big goal, I'd so appreciate it. Remember, donations can also be made online at our team donation site:

http://www.active.com/donate/walkandremember/HLyons7

We are officially 12 days out from the walk, and I'm as giddy as a little kid on Xmas morning. I live for this walk every year. I cannot describe to you, the emotion and feeling of handing that money in that we've raised, and knowing that this is going to help someone out. I usually don't sleep the night before the walk, because I'm so excited..lol My only regret, is that I wish I had my Mom walking by my side. But I remember, she's in my heart, so she's always with me. I will give you another update next Monday, May 17th, and then a final total of how much we've raised the night before the walk on Friday, May 21st. We are going to work hard to raise this money, we aren't stopping until the donations are turned in. So please, pass the word...we are all in this together, and the team and I cannot take all the credit for the donations...we have to give the credit to you for opening up your hearts to us and giving us these pledges.

Thank you again everyone...look for the next update in a week!!!!!
Heather
